How was Design Lighting born?
In 2016 Design Lighting celebrated our 16th anniversary. It was a time to reflect back on how we got to where we are today. Here is our story:
After spending several years as an electrician and sales person, Bill Dehaas and his wife Caroline decided to venture out on their own. Design Lighting opened its doors to the commercial lighting industry in 2000. With loyal, committed customers and a unique personal service, Bill was able to make this possible. Starting with three associates in Gloucester Estates, Langley, BC, Design Lighting quickly defined itself as a leader in the lighting industry. Due to steady growth, after three years Design Lighting moved to 202 Street in Langley with a vision to expand from the commercial industry to opening a public showroom.
Throughout their six years at this location, Design Lighting expanded several times to accommodate the ever growing business. With a growing number of associates, Design Lighting acquired more space by expanding into the neighboring unit. This allowed for increased warehouse space, more offices, and a slightly larger showroom. In 2007 Design Lighting started operating its own delivery service by purchasing a three ton truck and hiring a delivery driver.
All these expansions ultimately led to the building of a state of the art facility at 5499 192 Street in Surrey in 2007. This new facility boasts a beautifully laid out showroom complete with a design centre, landscape lab, a multi-level light switching system, as well as plenty of warehouse space to accommodate larger quantities of inventory to service their customers.
In the Spring of 2015 Design Lighting renovated a portion of its warehouse space into more showroom space. At the same time Design Lighting made the commitment to convert its entire showroom to be 100% LED.
